Requirements:

  • NQF Level 3 (Grade 11) or a National Certificate in Construction.
  • Minimum of 3 years of road work maintenance experience.
  • A valid driver’s license (minimum Code B).

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Familiarity with maintenance manuals, safety regulations, and costing systems.
  • Understanding of weekly work and plant returns.
  • Knowledge of service delivery programs and departmental reporting structures.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector policies, procedures, and disciplinary protocols.
  • Planning, organizational, problem-solving, and supervisory skills.
  • Strong communication and numeracy skills.
  • Proficiency in computer use.
  • Attributes: Responsible, punctual, conscientious, receptive to ideas, empathetic, culturally aware, and a team player.

Duties:

  • Road Construction and Maintenance:
    • Construct culverts, side drains, road earth, and layer works.
    • Erect and maintain steel guardrails, gabions, road fences, and pipes.
    • Perform surfacing, pothole patching, verge maintenance, and road cleaning.
    • Set road markings/signs, install road signs, and barricade work areas.
  • Supervision of Activities:
    • Ensure safety and precautionary measures are applied.
    • Conduct inspections and control tools, supplies, and equipment.
    • Allocate tasks, oversee performance, and maintain equipment.
    • Coordinate the blading program and manage traffic accommodation.
