Job Description:
The General Assistant will be responsible for providing comprehensive customer service, merchandising stock, labeling shelves, and maintaining cleanliness and order within their designated area. This position requires someone who can work under pressure, handle shifts, weekends, and public holidays, and is committed to achieving company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
- Advise and assist customers with product selections and queries.
- Address and resolve customer complaints promptly.
Merchandising Standards:
- Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely and in line with store layout and planograms.
- Maintain full responsibility for ensuring stock is arranged according to store layouts.
Housekeeping:
- Ensure your designated area is clear of obstacles and safely accessible to customers.
- Ensure that stock is merchandised immediately after being received.
- Correctly label shelves with prices.
- Complete required checklists, including Canteen and Toilet/Showers schedules when on duty.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements:
- Comply with safety regulations, including the use of safety gear.
- Ensure your area is safe for both customers and colleagues.
- Report any safety issues or discrepancies to the Store Manager.
Manage Stock Loss:
- Report damaged stock to the Store Manager.
Drive for Results:
- Achieve set targets while maintaining work quality.
- Follow through on all commitments and deliver results according to company standards.
Problem Solving:
- Identify problems, investigate their root causes, and resolve them.
- Escalate unresolved issues using available information and resources.
Decision Making:
- Make decisions in line with company policies and timelines.
- Ensure decisions consider the consequences for your area of responsibility.
- Implement decisions as per company guidelines and processes.

- Plan tasks in alignment with operational policies and procedures.

Requirements:
- Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year of work-related experience, or Grade 12 without related work experience.
- Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language of the area.
- Valid South African ID or work permit.
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
