Job Description:
As a General Assistant, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive customer service, managing stock merchandising, ensuring accurate shelf price labeling, and maintaining housekeeping standards within your designated area. The role requires you to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
- Advise and assist customers on product inquiries and assist in resolving customer complaints.
Merchandising Standards:
- Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely and according to the store layout and planograms.
- Maintain responsibility for keeping the area fully merchandised according to the store layout plan.
Housekeeping:
- Keep your area free of obstacles, ensuring stock is merchandised immediately after being received.
- Make sure customers can navigate the aisle safely and easily.
- Ensure correct shelf price labeling within your area of responsibility.
- Complete required checklists, including schedules for canteen and toilet/showers.
Safety (OHSA) Compliance:
- Adhere to safety regulations, including using necessary safety gear and ensuring the safety of both customers and staff in your area.
- Report any discrepancies or safety hazards to the Store Manager.
Manage Stock Loss:
- Report any damaged stock in your area to the Store Manager.
Drive for Results:
- Achieve set targets and complete tasks accurately, adhering to company standards.
- Follow through on commitments and ensure best practice quality/standards.
Problem Solving:
- Identify problems and investigate their root causes.
- Resolve issues using relevant information available in your department and escalate when necessary.
Decision Making:
- Make decisions within company policies and timelines, considering the consequences of your actions.
- Implement decisions in line with company processes.
Planning:
- Plan tasks according to operational and departmental policies.
Handle Pressure:
- Manage pressure effectively, maintaining control over your responses despite workload pressures.

- Be courteous and assist customers, suppliers, and colleagues when needed.
- Handle conflict situations effectively.
Communication:
- Demonstrate effective and courteous communication when interacting with others in accordance with company values.
- Share relevant information with appropriate stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year of related work experience, or Grade 12 without related work experience.
- Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area.
- Valid South African ID or work permit.
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to work under pressure.
