Job Description:

As a General Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include ensuring comprehensive customer service, merchandising stock, maintaining shelf price labeling, and ensuring housekeeping standards within your designated area. You will be required to follow safety procedures, manage stock loss, and assist customers with their product inquiries. This role involves working shifts, weekends, and public holidays.


Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

  • Advise and assist customers on the correct products and resolve queries.
  • Assist in handling customer complaints.

Merchandising Standards:

  • Ensure bulk stock areas are merchandised safely and in accordance with the store layout plan.
  • Maintain responsibility for merchandise presentation according to the store layout and planograms.

Housekeeping:

  • Ensure the area is free from obstacles, and that stock is merchandised immediately after receipt.
  • Maintain a clear and safe aisle for customers to navigate.
  • Ensure correct shelf price labeling within your area of responsibility.
  • Complete checklists as required, including Canteen and Toilet/Showers schedules.

Safety (OHSA) Requirements:

  • Adhere to safety requirements, including using safety gear and ensuring customer and staff safety within your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure safe merchandising of stock and report any discrepancies to the Store Manager.

Manage Stock Loss:

  • Report damaged stock within your designated area to the Store Manager.

Drive for Results:

  • Achieve set targets, complete tasks accurately, and deliver quality standards as established by the company.
  • Follow through on commitments and work efficiently.

Problem Solving:

  • Identify problems and seek the root cause, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Use relevant information to resolve issues within your area of responsibility.

Decision Making:

  • Make decisions within the framework of company policies and procedures.
  • Consider the consequences of decisions and implement them according to company guidelines.

Planning:

  • Plan work within the operational/department policies and procedures.

Handle Pressure:

  • Handle pressure effectively and maintain consistency in controlling responses during high-pressure situations.

Collaboration:

  • Demonstrate courtesy and willingness to assist when dealing with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Effectively manage daily conflict situations.

Communication:

  • Ensure effective communication with customers and colleagues, in line with company values.
  • Share relevant information with appropriate stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year of related work experience, or Grade 12 without related work experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area where the position is available.
  • Valid South African ID or work permit.
  • Basic math skills for accurate calculations.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
