Job Title: Cashier (External Applications Only)

Division: OPS 7 DIV 39 – UITENHAGE CENTRAL


Job Description:

As a Cashier, you will be responsible for accurately handling all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and documentation, ensuring customer satisfaction, and preventing any goods or stock from passing through the POS without being paid for. Your role will require attention to detail in cash handling, customer service, and administrative duties.


Key Responsibilities:

Cash Handling:

  • Ensure that all cash, including floats and petty cash, is balanced (no shortages or overs).
  • Correctly identify and capture goods on the Point of Sale terminal.
  • Accurately record the correct payment type received from customers.
  • Ensure sufficient change is available at all times.
  • Ensure pick-ups are done accurately and within set parameters.
  • Accurately complete cash-ups at the end of your shift.
  • Drop all daily takings into the Drop Safe/vault.
  • Process all transactions related to other stores’ money, deliveries, and quotes correctly.

Administration:

  • Sign, compile, and file all related documentation pertaining to the cashier function.

Ready for Business:

  • Adhere to company standards of “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” as per the company guidelines.

Customer Service:

  • Offer fast, friendly, and efficient service when checking customers in and out of goods.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate person for further assistance.
  • Ensure compliance with the company’s dress code at all times.

Safety (OHSA) Requirements:

  • Ensure customer and staff safety within your area of responsibility.
  • Report any discrepancies to the store manager.

Security Awareness:

  • Adhere to system password control at the till point.
  • Ensure secure cash handling and transport to the cash office as per company requirements.

Drive for Results:

  • Achieve set targets and ensure work is completed accurately and to the required standard.
  • Follow through on commitments and deliver best practice standards.

Problem Solving:

  • Identify problems and seek their root cause.
  • Resolve problems and escalate issues accordingly.
  • Utilize available information to address operational issues effectively.

  • Make decisions within company policies and timelines.
  • Consider the consequences of your decisions.
  • Implement decisions following company processes and policies.

  • Plan tasks within the framework of operational and departmental procedures.

  • Share relevant information with appropriate stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or a minimum of 1 year of work-related experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Strong administration skills.
  • Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
