Job Purpose

The Trainee Manager at Ackermans will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer shopping experiences through efficient stock replenishment, effective merchandising, maintaining housekeeping standards, and managing transactions at the till points. This position will require a strong focus on maintaining high sales, managing store standards, and leading the team to achieve company targets.


Key Responsibilities

  • Sales Optimization: Drive store sales by effectively implementing business processes to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Profit Management: Ensure profitability by managing costs within the established budget.
  • Human Resource Management: Implement professional HR practices in staffing, talent management, and fostering team development.
  • Stock Management: Manage stock effectively to ensure smooth operations and meet customer demand.
  • Customer Service: Ensure customer expectations are consistently exceeded, creating an exceptional shopping experience.
  • Team Leadership: Provide clear leadership and communication to ensure effective job performance and morale within the team.
  • Policy Adherence: Adhere to and enforce company policies and procedures across the store.
  • Store Image: Manage day-to-day operations to maintain a positive store image and optimal brand representation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 3 years’ retail experience, including at least 1 year in a management position.
    • Excellent skills in merchandise management, stock, and cost control.
    • A strong focus on customer service and maintaining store standards.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to influence and lead a team effectively, ensuring job performance and motivation.
  • Development Focus: Enthusiasm for developing both yourself and your team.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal). Proficiency in a second official language would be a distinct advantage.
  • Education:
    • Matric or equivalent qualification.
    • Additional qualifications in retail or business management would be beneficial.
