Purpose of the Job
The Environmental Sustainability (ES) Intern supports the Sustainability Department by conducting tasks that align with its goals. These include waste separation, zero food waste initiatives, solar PV system invoicing, and tracking sustainability KPIs. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about environmental management and sustainability practices.
Job Objectives
- Data Collection and Analysis:
- Visit stores to gather information on waste, energy usage, and other environmental metrics.
- Conduct waste audits at various sites.
- Process Improvement and Solutions:
- Investigate methods to divert organic waste from landfills.
- Conduct employee interviews to understand current processes and suggest improvements.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Compile collected data into reports for internal use and decision-making.
- Assist with solar PV system invoicing and sustainability KPI tracking.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Grade 12 qualification
- Diploma or Degree in Waste Management, Environmental Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, Science, or a related field
Experience
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a retail or FMCG environment
Knowledge and Skills
- Technical Proficiency: Basic MS Office 365 skills, especially in Excel.
- Environmental Awareness: Understanding of waste management and sustainability principles.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and written communication abilities.
- Analytical Thinking: Capable of conducting audits and presenting data-driven insights.
