Job Overview
Unitrans seeks a skilled Ultra-heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to operate heavy-duty vehicles, ensuring efficient and safe transport of goods. The role requires adherence to safety protocols, effective vehicle handling, and maintaining a high level of operational excellence.
Minimum Requirements
- Education:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or National Certificate.
- Licenses and Certification:
- Code EC (Code 14) driver’s license with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years driving ultra-heavy vehicles.
- Minimum of 3 years driving Superlink/Interlink/combination vehicles.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Proficient in defensive driving techniques.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle inspection and fire extinguisher operation.
- Familiarity with vehicle loading and offloading techniques.
- Ability to handle emergency reporting procedures.
- Additional Requirements:
- Must be prepared to work weekends and public holidays.
- Own reliable transport to and from work.
- Medically fit with a clean criminal record.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Vehicle Operations:
- Prepare vehicles for trips and operate ultra-heavy-duty vehicles efficiently.
- Load, transport, and offload goods safely and promptly.
- Maximize vehicle cost-effectiveness and maintain operational efficiency.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Conduct vehicle inspections and report any defects or emergencies.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety policies.
- Successfully complete medical evaluations, training modules, and practical driving assessments.
- Administrative Duties:
- Handle required documentation accurately and perform ancillary duties as instructed.
- Maintain proper housekeeping of vehicles, uniforms, and PPE.
- Operational Flexibility:
- Be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
- Follow supervisor instructions and assist with other reasonable duties.
