Job Overview

Unitrans is seeking a skilled and proactive SHERQ Coordinator to ensure safety, health, environment, risk, and quality management systems are aligned with both organizational and client-specific requirements. This role is integral to maintaining compliance with ISO standards, conducting audits, and fostering a safe and efficient work environment.


Minimum Requirements

  • Education:
    • Matric/Grade 12 with a relevant SHEQ qualification.
  • Skills and Experience:
    • Proficiency in MS Office with strong administrative skills.
    • Solid knowledge of OHASA 18001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 Management Systems, and the COID Act.
    • Familiarity with relevant Road Traffic Legislation, Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996), and SANS Standards.
    • Leadership qualities to foster teamwork, motivation, and cooperation.
    • Ability to work independently under pressure and meet contract deadlines.
    • Knowledge of accident and incident investigation, reporting, and remediation processes.
    • Experience in the transport industry is advantageous.
    • Knowledge of Entropy systems is an added advantage.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Safety and Risk Management

  • Conduct monthly safety inspections and risk assessments as needed.
  • Assist in preparing audits and maintaining housekeeping standards according to legal and contract requirements.
  • Monitor and update information on the Entropy system, including reports for incidents, accidents, inspections, and audits.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHASA 18001 standards.
  • Collect and compile SHEQ statistics for monthly reporting and presentations.
  • Monitor and maintain the driver’s matrix for training, medicals, and compliance with customer requirements.
  • Track and report on customer SHEQ performance measurements via Entropy.

Training and Communication

  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety stand-downs.
  • Ensure alignment of required SHEQ training with customer specifications in collaboration with the Training Department.
  • Provide coaching and reporting using DriveCam technology.

Audit and System Development

  • Participate in internal and external audits, logging, and tracking audit findings.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain SHEQ management systems and documentation.
