Job Overview:
Afrimat Aggregates Operations is looking for a Health and Safety Officer to play an active role in maintaining and implementing health and safety procedures, systems, and guidelines within the plant. The ideal candidate will provide expert advice, support compliance with local legislation, and promote a safe work culture.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Education:
- National Diploma in Safety Management or Equivalent.
- Experience:
- 3 to 5 years’ experience as a Health and Safety Officer.
- Proficiency in the development of Health & Safety Management Systems, including policies, procedures, guidelines, risk assessments, audits, inspections, accident investigations, and contractor management.
- Well-versed with relevant local Health & Safety acts and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health & Safety System Implementation:
- Play an active role in implementing and maintaining health and safety procedures and systems at the plant.
- Plan and organize Health & Safety activities and programmes to enhance the plant’s safe work culture.
- Compliance & Advisory:
- Advise and support plant management on Health & Safety issues to ensure compliance with local legislation and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Provide guidance in complying with Health and Safety Standards and Management Systems.
- Training & Drills:
- Conduct emergency drills as per the schedule.
- Coach, train, and raise awareness among employees and contractors about health and safety protocols.
- Plant & Equipment Safety:
- Advise management on health and safety requirements regarding the design and installation of new and modified facilities and equipment.
- Contractor Safety Management:
- Provide and advise the plant on contractor safety management requirements.
- Audits & Inspections:
- Conduct regular plant audits and inspections.
- Provide recommendations and follow-up to ensure improvement in health and safety performance.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting:
- Participate in incident investigations and provide guidance on corrective actions.
- Health & Safety Committees:
- Participate in plant management and health & safety committees, advising on relevant issues.
