Job Purpose:
The Engineering Foreman is responsible for the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment related to the processing plant, ensuring operational efficiency and equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal & Policy Responsibilities:
- Fulfill responsibilities of a MHSA Section 2.9.2 legal appointment.
- Maintain FAMP policies, standards, and procedure requirements.
- Maintenance Management:
- Preparation and execution of scheduled routine maintenance with production planning.
- Champion proactive maintenance by implementing preventive and predictive programs.
- Ensure effective equipment maintenance to improve reliability and availability.
- Control maintenance costs and minimize over-expenditure.
- Coordination:
- Issue work schedules and job cards.
- Lead the team in complying with SHE strategy and zero-harm framework.
- Develop and review weekly maintenance plans with the Maintenance and Process teams.
- Oversee third-party contractor maintenance and compliance.
- Administration:
- Maintain maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment inspection documentation.
- Prepare monthly performance and cost reports.
- Record breakdowns appropriately and ensure documentation standards.
- Team Management:
- Select, appoint, and supervise a competent team.
- Provide training, development, and mentorship to team members.
- Maintain open communication with subordinates and monitor performance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualifications:
- N3 Mechanical/Electrical Engineering subjects.
- Trade Test (MQA/MERSETA preferred).
- Supervisory Course (Advantageous).
- Experience:
- 2 years in a learnership/apprenticeship in mining, construction, transport, plant, or manufacturing.
- 3-5 years as an artisan in mining, plant, or manufacturing.
- 3 years of management experience in maintenance.
Skills, Qualities, and Abilities:
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Firm supervisory skills and team leadership.
- Computer literacy (Excel Basic; Pragma Onkey basic).
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering safety practices.
- Strong technical skills and knowledge of maintenance best practices.
- Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) expertise.
