About the Role:
takealot.com, South Africa’s leading online retailer, is seeking a dynamic Outbound Manager for its Johannesburg team. This role involves overseeing all outbound warehouse operations, ensuring efficiency, and driving operational excellence in a fast-paced e-commerce environment. The position reports directly to the GM Operations.
Responsibilities:
Warehouse Management:
- Oversee all outbound functions: inventory management, picking, packing, staging, and dispatching.
- Ensure damaged stock is processed and ready for timely collection.
Performance Optimization:
- Introduce and monitor productivity metrics to ensure optimal staff performance.
- Implement workflow improvements and “Best Practices” for operational excellence.
- Conduct strategic reviews of departmental KPIs and SLAs.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments to coordinate outbound activities and ensure on-time delivery.
- Engage with line managers to identify staff training needs and support development.
Staff Management:
- Manage team performance, providing coaching to exceed quantity, quality, timeliness, and efficiency expectations.
- Train staff on operational KPIs and ensure understanding.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and manage daily, weekly, and monthly commercial reports.
- Analyze operational data to identify and implement improvements.
Project Management:
- Participate in and lead ad hoc projects and events.
- Collaborate with project and operations managers for smooth execution.
Qualifications and Attributes:
Educational Background:
- Preferred: Diploma or Tertiary qualification in Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or Business/Commerce.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of field experience in operations.
- Minimum 3 years in a managerial role in operations.
- Proven expertise in stock management and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems).
Skills:
- Strong people management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and KPIs.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
