About the Role:
The General Assistant will play a critical support role in food preparation, customer service, and maintaining cleanliness in the canteen and kitchen areas. The position ensures compliance with hygiene standards, enhances customer satisfaction, and assists the team in delivering high-quality food service.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Service:
- Assist cooks and chefs in preparing meals, with a focus on salads and desserts.
- Place entrees, salads, and desserts on the serving line and ensure it remains well-stocked and clean.
- Operate the cash register as needed.
Cleanliness & Hygiene:
- Ensure compliance with cleanliness and hygiene regulations in all tasks.
- Maintain cleanliness of canteen tables, kitchen, and serving areas.
- Store and record food leftovers appropriately.
Customer Service:
- Deliver excellent customer service to meet expectations outlined in the contract.
- Handle and escalate customer compliments or complaints as required.
Operational Support:
- Assist in training new employees.
- Take inventory and hand over stock to the next shift staff as necessary.
- Attend team meetings and training sessions.
Other Duties:
- Execute any reasonable requests made by management.
- Perform related work as assigned to ensure smooth operation.
Skills and Competencies Required:
- Enjoy practical, hands-on work.
- Honest, reliable, and team-oriented.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and safely.
- Strong personal hygiene and no skin allergies to foods or detergents.
- Effective communication skills.
- Physically fit to handle bending, standing, and lifting.
- Stamina to work 45-50 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Completed a National Senior Certificate (Matric).
