About the Role:

The Food Services Assistant supports cooks and chefs in food preparation, operates the cash register, serves food, and maintains cleanliness in the kitchen and canteen. This role ensures compliance with hygiene and quality standards while delivering excellent customer service.


Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Service:

  • Assist in preparing meals, focusing on salads and desserts.
  • Place entrees, salads, and desserts on the serving line and ensure it remains stocked and clean.
  • Operate the cash register for food transactions.

Cleanliness & Hygiene:

  • Comply with cleanliness and hygiene regulations in all tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness of canteen tables, kitchen, and serving areas.
  • Properly store and record food leftovers.

Customer Service:

  • Deliver excellent customer service, adhering to contract provisions.
  • Address and escalate customer compliments or complaints when necessary.

Operational Support:

  • Assist in training new team members.
  • Ensure stock is counted and handed over to the next shift as applicable.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions.

Additional Duties:

  • Carry out any reasonable requests from management.
  • Perform related tasks to support operational excellence.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Enjoy practical, hands-on tasks.
  • Honest, reliable, and team-oriented.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and ability to work quickly and safely.
  • Good personal hygiene and no allergies to food or detergents.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Physically fit to handle bending, standing, and lifting.
  • Stamina to work 45-50 hours weekly.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Completed a National Senior Certificate (Matric).
