Job Description
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing operational and technical duties in alignment with organizational directives and will support the implementation of business initiatives within their designated area. This role involves various management responsibilities, including financial, operational, and stakeholder management, to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Business/Functional Management
- Execute operational and technical duties as per organizational directives provided by the superintendent or reporting line manager.
- Support the implementation of business initiatives as directed within their area of responsibility.
Financial, Commercial & Contracts Management
- Utilize materials and equipment in a cost-effective manner, adhering to standard operating procedures and practice notes as directed by the line manager.
- Ensure compliance with material usage requirements during the execution of duties.
Risk Management & Compliance (including ESG responsibility)
- Execute all duties in strict compliance with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) policies, procedures, and legislation to uphold the company’s responsibilities.
- Comply with all reporting information requirements set by the superintendent.
Stakeholder Management (Internal/External)
- Maintain professional interactions with stakeholders, from operators to junior management levels.
- Foster working relationships with support functions on-site and at head office to meet standards in their section.
- Engage with peers and seniors to ensure project objectives are achieved as instructed.
Operation & Projects Management
- Contribute to planning and shift work in alignment with project goals.
- Oversee the operational execution of work assigned, including personal tasks and team supervision during shifts.
Management Operating System & Reporting
- Ensure that all paperwork and posters are displayed in the site office and kept up to date.
- Record all reported near misses following procedures and submit them to the superintendent weekly.
Technical Management
- Adhere to technical standards and work methods as per organizational, client, and legal requirements.
- Verify the accuracy of plans, drawings, and quantities, ensuring that all materials and work meet specifications. Document the condition of plants arriving on site with forms and photographs.
Staff Management
- Execute duties in compliance with safety, training, and health requirements.
- Stay updated on personal professional development and assist the superintendent in ensuring operational delivery in assigned areas.
Culture & Climate
- Contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement throughout the project duration.
- Align with client culture requirements as directed by the line manager.
Requirements
Qualifications
- National Diploma in Civil or Mining/Metallurgical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
- B Tech in Civil or Mining/Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience
- At least 1 to 2 years of experience in tailings deposition within a mining/tailing environment.
Skills, Qualities & Abilities Required
- Strong understanding of the mining industry, particularly in the tailings business.
- Knowledge of national legislation, standards, and bylaws applicable to the tailings sector.
- Excellent understanding of technical and operational aspects core to the tailings industry.
- Familiarity with first-line supervision, management theory, and application.
