Introduction
Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Surveyor Grade 4 to be placed at Ivan Plats Platreef mine, in Mokopane, Limpopo. The successful candidate will report to the Project Manager. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.
Job description

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

  • Lead and supervise the surveying team in line with legal appointment to obtain data used to inform mine planning operations
  • Survey, map and calculate volume of material deposits, spoil piles or veins, overburden to be removed
  • Compute survey data such as volumes of ore and connecting underground workings to control direction and extent of mining operation
  • Determine the accuracy of any plan or drawing and verify the civil layouts and construction surveying for correctness of elevations etc.
  • Supervise vertical shaft and underground surveying as per project scope
  • Measure advances of faces and determine cubes and profile excavations
  • Draft layouts and DMRE plans
  • Prepare / verify mine survey plans are according to layouts and project scope
  • Maintain and update G-Sheets [underground layouts and survey plans] responsible to submit general sheets to the DMRE to indicate adherence to the project plan
  • Use SharePoint as a repository to maintain accurate document control and records of survey plans, drawings, mine ventilation and rescue plans etc.
  • Accurate monthly survey measurements and reporting
  • Survey layouts in conjunction with planning
  • Assist with project proposals, design layout and pick-up of drill/blast and digging areas
  • Effective communication of plans, provide appropriate information to project teams
  • Proactive identification and mitigation of mine survey risks
  • Self and team understand and comply with legal regulations, M&RC’s policies, procedures, standards, and safety protocols
  • Effective self and team management in alignment with M&RC’s values

 

 

Minimum requirements

 

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Government Mine Surveyor’s Certificate of Competency
  • MS Office Proficient [Word, Excel]
  • MS Projects
  • Exposure to mine survey / planning software [site specific]
  • Valid EB driver’s license
  • Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness
  • Proficient in English both verbal and written
  • Ability to supervise a team
  • Proficiency in mining software [Microstation/ Micromine/ Deswik] – Advantageous
  • Advanced Survey Certificate issued by the Chamber of Mines South Africa – Advantageous

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of underground mine surveying experience associated with shaft sinking, declines and holings between shafts and major excavations
  • Experience interpreting plans and plotting tape and offset measurements on a plan with sound knowledge of layouts and excavation design preparations
  • Project scheduling
  • Competent as MHSA Section 17.2(a) appointee
  • Experience supervising a team
  • Knowledge of infrastructure development (shaft loading boxes, silo excavations and conveyor structures.
  • Knowledge of trackless mining and development [site specific]
